The image of a byzantine icon on this page is one of the gifts that the Holy Father, Pope John Paul II, received on October 17, 1997 from the Carmelites. The icon was executed by a nun at the Carmel in Harissa, Lebanon.

Icon of Therese

This icon of St. Thérèse was painted by the Discalced Carmelite Nuns of the Carmel in Lebanon. It was presented to Pope John Paul II on 17 July 1997 on the occasion of St. Thérèse's being enrolled as the 33rd Doctor of the Church. It shows the unity of the Church through the number of Doctors from both eastern and western Church.
